The heat battle of Barcelona

Last weekend the 4.6 km long Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona was on the racing calendar of the Michelin Le Mans Cup.

As a traditional F1 circuit and the country’s leading circuit, it promises action-packed races. In the private test on Wednesday and during the free practice sessions on Friday, the SPS automotive performance team had perfectly adjusted the set-up of the black-red Mercedes AMG GT3. In qualifying Dexter Müller placed the Mercedes on a solid fifth place on the grid. Despite high outside temperatures the driver duo managed to keep a cool head during the race. Thus Dexter Müller managed to drive his stint confidently and to stay out of all battles. He handed over the Mercedes AMG GT3 to Yannick Mettler in 7th place with the scheduled driver change, during which also the pit crew defied the heat perfectly. Yannick Mettler quickly managed to get back to 5th place.

By driving the fastest lap he caught up with the leaders. In the fight for the last place on the podium, the LMP3s that were driving at the same time also provided exciting moments. The trio consisting of Aston Martin, Ferrari and the SPS Mercedes became the race highlight. Unfortunately, the black-red racing car could not pass the other riders and finished in 5th position after the intensive race. Thus again valuable counters for the championship were driven in. 3rd place is still within reach. We thank the whole team and say goodbye to the summer break – until 2 months on the famous Circuit Spa-Francorchamps!
