SPS automotive performance aims for podium at Monza again

The penultimate event of the International GT Open will be held at the legendary Autodromo Nazionale Monza this weekend. SPS automotive performance with its drivers Dexter Müller and Yannick Mettler (both SUI) will be aiming for further podium finishes in the PROAM class with the #54 Mercedes-AMG GT3 at the tradition-steeped high-speed circuit and to keep the championship open.

On this unique race track with long straights, fast corners and tight chicanes, engine performance and aerodynamics play a crucial role. Despite an unfortunate second race at the Red Bull Ring, where the black-and-red Mercedes-AMG GT3 of the Willsbach-based team missed out on points, the team and drivers are confident of good chances at the Italian Grand Prix circuit. In the past two years, cars from Mercedes-AMG took the overall victory in at least one of the races in this popular racing series. This fact makes them optimistic that they will also be able to attack the podium in the PROAM category this year. Dexter Müller and Yannick Mettler are only eight points behind the runner-up with a total of 40 points still to be awarded. With a good result, the Swiss duo has the opportunity to further reduce the gap to the top and keep the decision for the top positions in the fiercely contested PROAM category open before the final races.

The first race at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza will start on Saturday, 24 September, at 15:30 CEST and will cover a distance of 70 minutes. For race two on Sunday, which is scheduled to last one hour, the lights will go green at 14:15 CEST.

Stephan Sohn, Team Principal SPS automotive performance: “We are now entering the decisive phase of the championship. The whole team and both drivers have done a very good job so far. Now we have to confirm our performance in the last races. I think we can then achieve a good end to the season.”
