Opening round of the Sprint Cup in the GT World Challenge Europe for SPS automotive performance in Magny-Cours

This weekend, SPS automotive lines up at the next event in the GT World Challenge Europe at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, which hosts the first two rounds of the Sprint Cup.

After the promising start to the season in the GT World Challenge Europe in Monza, where SPS automotive performance picked up its first points in the Endurance Cup, the team from Willsbach now lines up with a Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the Pro-Am class in the first two Sprint Cup races in Magny-Cours. The team has its sights set on picking up its next points in the highly-competitive SRO series in the two one-hour races.

Valentin Pierburg (GER) will share the cockpit of the #20 Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Dominik Baumann (AUT). The duo contested virtually all of last season’s Sprint Cup races in the GT World Challenge Europe together, claiming seven podium finishes in the Pro-Am class. In doing so, they were both instrumental in SPS automotive performance finishing third in the Pro-Am class in 2020. This year, Pierburg and Baumann line up again in the Pro-Am class, in which the regulations stipulate that each car must be shared by one professional and one amateur driver.

Race one of the GT World Challenge Europe in Magny-Cours is a night race and gets underway at 22:25 local time on Saturday 8th May. The second race of the weekend starts at 14:40 on Sunday.

Stephan Sohn, team principal SPS automotive performance: “We are very much looking forward to the first races in the Sprint Cup. After our first points at the season-opener in Monza, and the good results in last season’s Sprint Cup, we are highly motivated to get another good result in our class in Magny-Cours.”
