Michelin Le Mans Cup: No points at Monza

Last weekend the second round of the 2019 Michelin Le Mans Cup season took place in Monza. Already on Wednesday the first laps could be driven in the unofficial test. Dexter Müller and Yannik Mettler continued their excellent performance from the first race at the Circuit Paul Ricard and were able to set a best time of 1:49.444 during the test day. This meant P1 in the GT3 class. Best conditions for the qualifying on Saturday morning.

Highly motivated, the driver duo in the black-red Mercedes with start number 54 started into the 15-minute qualifying, which according to the regulations has to be driven by the bronze driver. Dexter Müller put the Mercedes AMG GT3 on an excellent seventh position, so the driver duo had a good starting position for the race in the afternoon. After a perfect start Dexter Müller made up two positions. Then in the second lap he had a collision with a car from the LMP3 class. The damages on the SPS Mercedes could not be repaired quickly, so the duo Müller/Mettler unfortunately could not score any points. The chaotic course of the race in Monza would have made us hope for a podium place if there wasn’t the collision. Now the SPS automotive performance team starts its preparations for the season highlight in Le Mans, the Road to Le Mans.
