SPS automotive performance aims for next success at Spa-Francorchamps

After the successful season start in the International GT Open, SPS automotive performance returns to Spa-Francorchamps highly motivated. At the second event of the International GT Open, the Willsbach-based team will once again be competing with two Mercedes-AMG GT3s.

At the season opener of the International GT Open in Portimao, both driver crews showed good early form. Dexter Müller and Yannick Mettler (both SUI) in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 #54 took an immediate class win in the PROAM in the first round under the entry CBRX by SPS. In the sister car with start number 20, the two youngsters Reece Barr (IRL) and Mikaeel Pitamber (RSA) also performed well. In both rounds at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, the duo achieved a top ten finish overall in their first races together against their strong competitors.

Team and drivers are looking to build on this form at the demanding Spa-Francorchamps circuit. As at the first race of the season, Dexter Müller and Yannick Mettler will again line up in the number 54 CBRX by SPS entry. Reece Barr and Mikaeel Pitamber will once again sharing the wheel of the #20 Mercedes-AMG GT3. SPS automotive performance already visited the Ardennes circuit at the beginning of May for the twelve-hour 24H Series race, where they celebrated third place overall and class victory. This success further motivates the team to confirm the performance from the previous race. Like last year, the second event of the International GT Open will deviate from the usual format of the race series. Instead of two sprint races, an endurance race over a distance of two hours and 20 minutes will be held on the Belgian Grand Prix circuit.

The starting positions for the second event of the International GT Open will be determined in two qualifying sessions on Saturday, 27 May. On the following Sunday, the race on the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps will be started at 12:45 CEST.

Stephan Sohn, Team Principal SPS automotive performance: “It’s great to be able to race at Spa again. We celebrated some great successes here last year as a team and this year we have already taken home a class win. The track is very demanding and the competition will be very strong again. But we are optimistic that we will be able to confirm our performance from the first races.”
