Michelin Le Mans Cup Round 1: Podium in first race!

As recently announced, SPS automotive performance starts this season at the Michelin Le Mans Cup 2019 in all planned races. Last weekend, after the Collective Test at the Circuit Paul Ricard Le Castellet on 10 April 2019, the first of six race weekends took place. Here, the SPS automotive performance team started with the Mercedes AMG GT3 in the first round of the Michelin Le Mans Cup 2019, also at the Circuit Paul Ricard Le Castellet. This highlight was eagerly awaited by the entire team.

Yannik Mettler and Dexter Müller share the cockpit of the Mercedes AMG GT3 with the number 54. Besides 9 other GT3 and 22 LMP3 SPS automotive performance starts in the GT3 class and is thus the first German team to participate in all races of the Michelin Le Mans Cup.

At the Collective Tests on April 10, Dexter Müller and Yannik Mettler were able to test the race track and achieve the fastest lap time of 1:53.81 with the Mercedes AMG GT3. Good conditions for the weekend! Also, in the free practice on Friday it went well for the black-red Mercedes and the driver duo. The weather was quite mixed and gave the two a partly wet, but in the end quite dry road. However, the drivers mastered these conditions without any problems and secured the SPS automotive performance Team P1 in the GT3 category, followed by four Ferrari 488 GT3.

In the qualifying of the GT3 class on the morning of the 13th April, the SPS team lined up behind the Beechdean AMR team on position 7 and thus started in the rear midfield in the two-hour race at 4 p.m.. With an average speed of 181.2 km/h, Yannik Mettler and Dexter Müller finished on position 13 in the overall segment with 18 points and 2nd in the GT3 class, 3 positions ahead of the Beechdean AMR team! P1 gained the Ferrari 488 GT3 of Team Kessel Racing. A perfect start of the season 2019 in the Le Mans Cup for SPS automotive performance, which could be celebrated on the podium! For the first race P2 is a fantastic result and the whole team is looking motivated at Round 2 of the Le Mans Cup in Monza on 11th of May 2019. A big thank you to both drivers and the whole team who made this successful start possible!
