A perfect race weekend for SPS automotive performance!

The highlight of the 2019 Michelin Le Mans Cup was the third lap on the Le Mans circuit. Two 55-minute races were held, one on Thursday and one on Saturday just before the start of the famous 24-hour race.

For the driver duo Dexter Müller and Yannick Mettler, who unfortunately remained without points in Monza, this was a chance to score championship points twice. The SPS automotive performance team fielded a second car for the Le Mans race – Valentin Pierburg and Tom Onslow-Cole are guest entrants at the Sarthe.

All drivers except Tom Onslow-Cole started on the high-speed track for the first time. Thus, the two free practice sessions were fully exploited to trim the cars as well as the drivers to top speed. Starting number 54 was qualified by Dexter Müller and Yannik Mettler on P9 for the first race and P7 for the second race. Valentin Pierburg and Tom Onslow-Cole qualified the Mercedes #40 on P4 for the first race and P3 for the second race. Thus the conditions for a good result were given.

The set-up proved to be very competitive in the race. Valentin Pierburg and Tom Onslow-Cole made it straight to the famous podium (P2) in their first race at Le Mans! Dexter Müller and Yannik Mettler also scored solid championship points with P9 – they are currently 4th in the championship.

In the second race the driver duos again showed a top performance in an exciting 55 minutes. In the hard-fought field Valentin Pierburg and Tom Onslow-Cole once again took a podium place with P3 in Le Mans! Dexter Müller and Yannik Mettler continued their solid performance and placed 7th in the second race. A perfect weekend for the whole team! SPS automotive performance continues with the GT Open race at the Red Bull Ring on July 13th.
